Rose family - Lewisham
« on: Wednesday 28 October 09 18:07 UTC (UK) »

Hello

I have a Rose family, living on Catford Hill, Lewisham in 1841

James Rose 54 Kent
William Rose 15 ?
Mary Anne Rose 19 Kent
Emma Rose 12 Kent (bap 22 MAR 1829 Saint Mary, Lewisham)
Mary Anne McDonald 11 ?
Ann Rose 57 Kent

I was wondering if there were any listers who may be able to find a marriage for James, maybe a birth place for William

Thank you

Rob

Hi

The 1841 shows James Rose as aged 50 and Ann as 54

Who did William marry and when - there are too many IGI entries to determine the right one so you need to find him on a later census

Sorry my mistake re-ages

sadly I have no other info regarding William .... or his siblings

However there is a James Rose b 1811
bap 26 Jan 1812 Chiselhurst - he is my gt gt grandfather

I believe he may be the brother of those mentioned in the 1841 census - but his mother was Elisabeth ?

Also, his grandson was Macdonald Rose (odd name?) b 1900 Beckenham / Bromley ... possibly only a coincidence bearing in mind Mary Anne McDonald from the 1841 census

Hi Robrose

I found some baptisms for two more members of the Rose family on the census but not unfortunately William.

Mary Ann Rose Baptism 9 July 1820 St Mary's Lewisham Kent
Leonard Rose Baptism 26 May 1822 St Mary's Lewisham Kent

The parents for both are listed as James Rose and Ann.

There is a marriage for an Ann Sandland to James Rose 6 November 1814 St Anne Soho Westminster but obviously apart from names there is no other connection.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Regards Sarenid

I looked to see if any of the Rose family were still living at Catford Hill but although there was a number of Roses none could be matched to those in the 1841 census.

Hi Robrose
Just read your previous note.   there is a Thomas Rose 64 living with wife Elizabeth Catherine 69 daughter Mary 30 and granddaughter Martha 4 at another dwelling on Catford Hill in 1851 are these any connection to you.  Thomas Rose was born in Lewisham Elizabeth Catherine in Islington.  They come about three households down from James and his family.
