1871 lookup please/James A Major
« on: Wednesday 28 October 09 19:33 UTC (UK) »

Looking for James A Major born Sculcoates 1869. He should be with parents William and Margaret Major. According to the 1881 Margaret was shown as being born 1844 and had become a widow.

David, do you know what William's occupation was?  I can see a Margaret Major wife of a boat/ship Master in Lincolnshire.

Hi All

Yes that look's right.   The 1881 seem's to confirm James's birth details and also Margaret's. William had died by the 1881, but there was another child Lily, which is the one I'm really interested in. Lily seemed to be with a widow Martha Major (maiden name Lee, who also married a William Major). Lily's birth certifcate. if I have the right one,  gave her father as William Major and mother as Margaret Oliver, but her marriage certificate shows her father as Thomas Lee along with Martha Major on the certificate. So you see I have a little problem.
