Maquis

Does anyone know if there are lists of people who fought with the French Resistance, particularly the Maquis?

Thanks

If you are looking at SOE operatives ...sort of...yes

As for French members...Ummm...I expect the French themselves collated something after the war, but any Brits involved were whitewashed a bit...De Gaulle didn't like us much!

Eddie,
There was a Frenchwoman, madam Dulles, who lived near Grenoble who was in the Maquis- a very brave woman.
I met her 30 years ago.

Thanks Scrimnet and Charlotte

It's a strange story and I don't have many details, but somehow my father (who was Irish but with some French ancestry) found a way to fight the nazis in France. I don't think he was in SOE (I've done a bit of checking in the National Archives) although he did speak of some members as if he might have known them - I remember the name Yeo-Thomas, in particular.

So I think he used some French contacts to find a way to play his particular part in Hitler's downfall. Maybe I should contact the French consulate or some such organisation?

Edie, Would the War Museum in London be a good starting point?

they'd very likely know where various records are archived etc.

Edward Yeo-Thomas (GC, MC & Bar) was one of the many brave people who served in SOE.

I remember reading about Yeo-Thomas when I was a kid after my father talked about him, but I'm not certain that he knew him personally.

I'll try the IWM and maybe put a post on the French board here.

Thanks for all replies.

I'd try the Special Forces Club in London

The Special Forces Club 8 Herbert Crescent LONDON SW1X OEZ

Drop them a line...It was set up by ex SOE operatives in 1946 and is (just!) still extant
