Please help me find Francis Edward Ockenden born in Hammersmith about 1858.
I have found him with his first wife, Fanny Livermore in Fulham in 1881 and with his children and his in-laws in 1891. He married Fanny before Jun 30 1880, and married Susan Ford before Sep 30, 1891. (I will send for marriage records.)
I cannot find him on the FreeBMD indexes for a birth anywhere in the years around 1858. There is one Francis, in Poplar, but they are both recorded in 1881. I have searched using wildcards for names both Oc*n and Coc*n with first name Fran* and with no first name.
I also cannot find him on any census before 1881.
He is in the indexes for 1901 and 1911, but I don't have access to these.
Can anyone help me find his parents &/or him on other censuses?
thanks Sharon

Here's the 1901 Household whilst you are awaiting his Marriage Certs to reveal his Father's name .....
It does look like his mother is here in 1901, but the line has been heavily corrected and I'm unsure of her name and if it actually says 'Mother'
Somebody else is researching the family - this correction was posted:-

He jumps straight out in 1871

His second marriage was on 5 July 1891 at St Matthew, West Kensington. He gives his age as 31 and his occupation as labourer. His father is named as George Ockenden (occuaption - labourer). Susan Ford is aged 24 and her father named as James Ford (carman).

George & Emma (with no children shown at all) are here in 1861:-
RG9/24; Folio: 131; Page: 37 Garon Grove
George is a Labourer, born Fulham and Emma's PoB is given as London - both state 28 years of age.
Probably their marriage:-
Marriages Mar 1861 Binall Emma Kensington vol 1a page 24 Joice Mary Ann do Ockenden George do Withers William Thomas do
So who is 'Louisa Black' from the 1871 census?

Thanks to all, This information is very helpful.
Nigel, How is his name listed on the marriage certificate? Do you have access to the marriage certificate of George Ockenden and Emma Binall (Mar 1861) that Curmudgeon found?
I have found probably Francis' father George, with George and Charlotte (Grandparents?) in 1841. In 1861, George senior lists a birthplace as Sevenoaks, Kent. In 1851, they are paupers, separated and in the Fulham Union Workhouse. (Does anyone know what Haks Kent would mean? That is what is listed as his birthplace there.)
I have found Susan Ford and James and various wives in the 1881, 1871 and 1861 census. I am trying to make sense of that.
Curmudgeon, I have no idea who is Louisa Black.
Lots of work continuing, but thanks again.

The name appears as Frances Edward Ockenden. I am afraid I haven't seen the other certificates.

Hi
Some of George's siblings' baptisms
St John, Walham Green 10th July 1842 born 9th November 1837 Francis Ockenden parents George and Charlotte, Pond Place, father's occupation labourer born September 14th 1840 baptised same day as his brother Edward Ockenden born 9th December 1841 baptised 23rd April 1843 Naomie Ockenden same details
One of the younger children, if their births were registered, would give you their mother's maiden name from their birth certificate.
There is a Thomas Ockendon baptised in Sevenoaks on 24th March 1814, parents John and Phebe - sorry I only have access to an index of Bishops Transcripts not the full baptism register. They also have a daughter Susann baptised 1st April 1810 in Bromley. Might be connected might not.
The birthplace of George Ockendon on the 1851 census is 7 Oaks Kent. The American (probably) transcriber and indexer has done their best and come up with Haks. It always pays to look carefully and see whether you agree with the indexer or not.
Regards
Valda

Thanks everyone, now I'm trying to find the origin of Francis grandfather, George (born abt 1810, in Sevenoaks) and his wife Charlotte, born in Parsons Green/Fulham.
The Sevenoaks connection is interesting.
A couple of possible brothers show up on the census records: In 1841, 32 year old Edward Ockenden and 20 year old Thomas Ockenden live separately in Seven Oaks Kent. In 1851, Edward is 38 and Thomas is be 34, if I have found the same men.
The IGI has some Sevenoaks activity for Ockendens: The marriage of Edward Ockenden and Sarah Heath 05 APR 1775 and a number of females born to Edward and Sarah (and one to Henry and Mary) between 1781 & 1789. It lookS as though the records they have transcribed contain only females.
John Ockenden and Phoebe Ellis were married 05 Jun 1809 in nearby Chelsfield, Kent.
Now where do I go. I assume George and Charlotte were married about 1831, based on their ages and the age of their oldest daughter, probably in or near Parsons Green/Fulham. Where does a Canadian like me best spend her resources looking for a marriage record in that era?
How do I go about getting birth / baptism records in Sevenoaks in the early 1800's?
Thanks again Sharon

Hi
I would suggest completed this topic on the London and Middlesex board and continuing further back with the Ockendons through a new topic on the Kent board. North West Kent Family History Society covers Sevenoaks but they don't seem to have done a transcription of that parishes records.
