One person I know has only put her name, place and date of birth on GR. She is hoping that her child who was adopted some years ago may see her name and make contact. In which case Genesreunited seems quite appropriate !
If you go to MY ACCOUNT on GR, you can turn off any of the unwanted mails re "Is XYZ part of your family"

Hi Polly,
My friend did the same when looking for her birth mother. She didn't know how old her birth mum was or her place of birth, so she concentrated on her own details knowing her birth mum would recognise them Someone told me that it's best to put the adoption regisration number, so people can identify a match easely.
I wish your friend luck.

I am hoping for some advice on the reason people remove their Tree from GR.
In my case it was too many false positives. I used to get several messages every week from people whose ancestry just happened to contain similar names to my own. The vast majority of them weren't even in the same county. GR proved to be too much of a time-waster so I removed all information and cancelled my membership. Graham Same with me, except that I have not as yet stopped my subscription. And I did find my third cousin from the Brown side of my family.

Hi Ambers, Have you thought of trying Facebook. Hate the site myself, too many unscrupulous people. But if she is a member she may see your posting. You could just put her name down as a friend without saying anything else and see if she contacts you. Just a thought. marcie

Hi marcie,
I thought about doing that, but so many of them with the same name as her .
I wouldn't use the site normally, possibly it's for a younger age group than myself, ;)but joined it through a friend in the USA. I just ignore people who try to make contact with me if I don't recognise the names, as I guess many others would also do that.
I have spotted another person on there that has been looking to make a connection with my family for many years, but so far haven't had any replies from them
