Been doing a bit of further digging - what's the betting Keith already knows this and is close to this side of the family
Kathleen Woodside, 87, from Liverpool, who helped to found the War Widows Association of Great Britain after her husband Charles was killed on the last day of the war in Italy on March 1, 1945, said: “I am against this kind of talk.
From the daily express in 07 - so she was still alive then. And from another snippet, she lived in Calderstones, which is quite a nice area of Liverpool.
For Kathleen Woodside of Calderstones it was a poignant day to remember as she paid her own special tribute to the men who sacrificed their lives.
Her own husband Charles Woodside, who would have been 86, was killed in Italy in the last few days of the war. She never re-married, but clings on to the memories of the few precious years she had with the man she married in 1942.
Yep, tugs at the heartstrings that one, doesn't it. The woman loved her man. Her work is prolific and she's never forgotten him. Here's another
Kathleen Woodside, 82, chose the inscription ``When you walk in peaceful lanes so green, remember us and think what might have been.'' ...
My suggestion is you contact Liverpool Echo (the local newspaper) or Liverpool War Widows association about this woman.
Regards Ann

Migky, Ann,
This is taking on a role of its own.
I am sorry that I have not got back to you both.
I hope that you do not mind providing information.
A lot of what you are providing is new.
I did know some details, very small details.
This is the side of the family I did not know, only from obtaining my Grans birth cert and then tracking my Grans birth mother Gladys Bishop nee woodside.
Interesting info about Kathleen Woodside. Maybe being honoured with MBE's run in the family.

Royd,
I would be interested in the family trees with the woodside name.
It may just give me some sort of link from my Woodsides.

No probs, I enjoy a good ancestor hunt
Just having a quick look, I see James Arthurs service records there too. It looks like he was demobbed in 1919 so he survived and I can see no injuries listed, so I guess there's a good chance he had a family afterward. There are several pages in the document (about 20!) and a couple of addresses, so it might be worthwhile you taking out one of those free trial subscriptions on Ancestry for a couple of weeks to download them.
