The official Licensing Report Book for Liverpool, January 1909 version, has The Grapes Hotel at 20 Park Place.  It had a full licence in the name of William Evans, the manager for the owners, Threlfalls Brewery Company Ld.  A club room on the first floor had been allowed at the annual licensing meeting in 1904.  There were 5 rooms for domestic purposes, one licensee since 1/1/1900 [presumably Evans], two doors into Park Place.
A penned amendment shows that the licence was 'compensated' in 1912.  This means that the owners surrendered the licence in exchange for financial return - there were too many pubs at the time.
There may be similar records of this type for other years at the Liverpool Record Office.
