In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth.

I don't know about anyone else, but I can't see a thing on the jpg you've posted.  Just a gray oblong surrounded by black.

There is writing there but I've even tried it enlarged and it still isn't readable.

Do you think one of those clever people on the photo restoration board might be able to sharpen up the image and get rid of some of that background grey?

It took perfect concentration, enlarging of the image, a little tweaking here and there and copious amounts of wine to get this clever.....     Grin Grin

Dobby

Do you think you could rescan the original, please?  This one's only 96 dpi and we may be able to see more if it was scanned at a higher resolution.  Smiley

Hi Gaget

The image is off a film reader reproduced image and photo'd from that. The copies off the Machine reader are impossible to read either to faint or came out a thick black line and out of 50 photo shots! I only got this one that was anything like legable. A for a rescan -............I could pray.

Well thanks for your input! All

Also Many thanks Gadget! for your realist view.

Hi Dobby

Comparing the two forms of Penington, I'd say that they were the same and I can now see a Mary reasonably well if I play with the curves.

I'm also nearly convinced on a James  - I can see an a and an m after a first letter which might be a J or a T*

Think that's as far as my software will take me.

I spect Tephra and Hepburn will agree with me  Grin

Gadget

* added - I now think that the J or T is actually the of and  - so we have

Mary  ...g   of .am... Penington .....
