I don't know about anyone else, but I can't see a thing on the jpg you've posted. Just a gray oblong surrounded by black.

There is writing there but I've even tried it enlarged and it still isn't readable.

Comparing the two forms of Penington, I'd say that they were the same and I can now see a Mary reasonably well if I play with the curves.
I'm also nearly convinced on a James - I can see an a and an m after a first letter which might be a J or a T*
Think that's as far as my software will take me.
I spect Tephra and Hepburn will agree with me

Mary ...g of .am... Penington .....
