Hi cardiff.

It does seem to be the answer to my query.
It was a sheep coincidence that my cousin made contact today on the very day the death certificate arrived and she had been to Rookwood to see Uncle Will.

No wonder the poor man suffered so long.
His service record mentioned lacerations to his legs and shellshock but didn't mention spinal injury or paralysis so I think the shrapnel may have moved and lodged in his spine at a later date.
