john willey and rose bentley appeared to marry around 1895/6 in the thirsk area.
their first children (twins) george ralph lupton willey and frank bentley willey were born 1896 in rainton nr. thirsk but we can't find the marriage cert.
can anybody or present day descendants of the wiilleys or bentleys help
it's the only certifcate we need to complete the tree.

Hello,

John is quite a bit older than Rose- do you have him in earlier censuses? I was wondering if he was already married perhaps?
I have ancestors who were together for almost 40 years before they married  Shocked

There is an 1892 marriage for a John Willey to Elizabeth Blezard (well they are the only people on the Free BMD record) and there is an Elizabeth in Sessay in 1891.  Undecided
Found them in 1901

there is a marriage for John Willey, Thirsk, Oct/Nov/Dec 1892 ref 9d 863
but only one bride and one groom are transcribed and it is not our Rose.
BUT it could be that there were actually two others on the page, as is the norm, and that one in Rose ...

hold on and I will check the full indexes for that quarter n see if Rose is there ....

modified to add ....no Rose Bentley to match, sorry.
(sorry Heywood, looks like you were busy ruling that one out too!)

Hi Liz,

that's the one I saw and they are there in 1901  Undecided John and Elizabeth (Blezard).

There is also one in 1899 to Lillie Wetherill (who would then be Lillie Willey which matches the John Willie Willey I also saw  Roll Eyes)

That's a good idea Pauline. They may be like my grandparents though who said they had been married several years in 1911 but they were the ones who didn't marry until 1940s.

CAN'T LOOK IN 1911 CENSUS AS ROSE DIED IN 1902 AND JOHN REMARRIED
ALL THEIR CHILDREN WERE CHRISTENED WILLEY
1901 CENSUS SHOWS THEM IN HOLME WITH SON FRANK
CAN ONLY HOPE A RELATIVE MAY HAVE THE ANSWER

Hello again,

yes I just saw that Rose death and Frances in 1911. What was his status on his marriage to Frances? Was he a widower?

I can only think of parish records for you unless as you say a family member has details. However, if you can't find them in registers that may be unlikely.

I saw a marriage the other day where the page for the groom was not in the indexes but in this case, Rose doesn't appear either in the indexes.

Where was Rose in 1891? Perhaps the Parish registers for her home parish or John's may be worth trying for.  Undecided
