? Photo of House in Kessingland
« on: Thursday 29 October 09 17:24 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone recognise this house or cottages in Kessingland?
This was a postcard sent around 1911 to my husbands Grandmother. It reads "this is the house your Fathers Grandmother used to live in."
On the photo is written Kessingland in one corner & Old Cottages in the other.
I was hoping someone may recognise it. The family lived in Mutford.

Thanks Sossle

Tried to find out where in the world you are based, but I am happy to PM you the details of the Local History Recorder for Kessingland.  No email, but you could send a copy to him via the old fashioned method (when the postal strike is over)   Wink

Hi,

I live in Cheshire so a long long way from Suffolk.
One of my ancestors moved to Manchester area pre 1881.
I plan in the future to visit Kessingland that's why I'm interested in the house.

Up until about 15 years ago I knew Kessingland reasonable well. I can't place your two storey cottage with dormers in the thatch from the picture.  Roll Eyes

I'm guessing it's in the older part of the village which is the south end which runs towards the sea. Church Lane on this map
If you don't have any luck with the LHR you could try a long shot and email it to the secretary of the local working mens club and ask for help!

Good Luck!
