Hello, I am researching William Cate born 1639 in Chardstock. We believe, that this could be William Abraham Cate, who moved to Colyton, and had 2 sons, Robert and Richard. His parents were William Cates and Agnes Dummet. William was born 22/12 1639. Could anyone provide information about the middle name. The birth info was from transcripts on www.opcdorset.com, which lists first names but not the second.  Thank you, John Cates

On IGI found the following which may be your Cate family:-

Births:
Dorothe (sic) Cate christened 17.8.1634 St Andrew, Chardstock, Dorset
Joane (sic) Cate christened 1.1.1636 St Andrew, Chardstock, Dorset
Henrye (sic) Cate christened 18.8.1644 St Andrew, Chardstock, Dorset
William Cate christened 22.12.1639 St Andrew, Chardstock, Dorset
Parents of the above children: William Cate and Agnes.

There is also this marriage listed:
William Cate to Jone Grange - 3.7.1654 - St Andrew, Chardstock, Dorset.
Is this William snr's second marriage ... Huh
William jnr would be barely 15 years old.
