Does anyone have more information on William H Hancock born abt 1848 (Holsworthy, Devon, , England)? he was the father of my Great Grandmother.
The 1881 census said he was married too Elizabeth.
I want to find out who William H Hancockl`s parents names? And the maiden name and parents of Elizabeth. Does anyone have this information or know where I may find it. I am planning a trip to Devon later this year. So can look further then. I live in south Wales. I do know he was a corn miller at Docton Mills in Hartland which is now Gold medal award winning flower gardens voted best cream tea in devon. Cant wait to visit.
Any advice or tips would be great. I am very new to family tracing.
Thanks
Alan

Hi Alan,
On the other census records where he appears with Elizabeth, his birth place is Pyworthy Devon therefore this seems a good match in 1851:
1851 HO107/1896 112 22 Pyworthy, Devon Great Knowle Nathaniel Hancock, head, 40, Farm Labourer, b. Devon Bradford Salley, wife, 39, b. do. Sharlott, dau, 11, b. do. John, son, 7, b. Pyworthy William, son, 4, b. do.
Possible birth registration: William Henry Hancock Sep 1847 Holsworthy 9 310

You'd need the certs to confirm all this but I believe this to be Elizabeth in 1851:
1851 HO107/1895 565 16 Hartland, Devon Thomas Courtice, head, 35, Ag lab Grace, wife, 41 Mary A, dau, 11, scholar Elizabeth, dau, 4 scholar
All born Hartland. The name is Courtice here but Curtis on later censuses.

Thank you kindly for your help.
In regards to getting the birth certificate for William H Hancock. How would I go about it? How far can you usually go back when getting certificates? What do they cost? Like I said I am very new to this.
Thanks Again
