Pritchards in Skipton Yorkshire
« on: Friday 30 October 09 05:09 UTC (UK) »

I'm looking for the family of my 4xgr grandfather Richard Pritchard. According to the census he was born in Skipton, probably around about 1787. He later moved to Austwick near Settle.

Pritchard being a Welsh surname it would not have been very common in the Yorkshire Dales. Would like to find out who his parents were and if he had brothers or sisters...

Grungefrog, IGI has the following.

Richard Pritchard   b. Jan 5, 1787     c. May 25, 1787       Skipton
Father: John Pritchard
Mother: Eleanor
I cannot find any other children.

There is also a marriage:

John Pritchard / Eleanor Lowcock
May 16, 1786 , Skipton in Craven, Yorkshire

you will see your Richard Pritchard and his ancestors.

You will need to join the site but it is free.

Thanks Dee, and Daniel for pointing me to the Wharfedale & Craven site. By the way Daniel we are distant cousins (if you remember some of the postings about the Graham family of Askrigg/Carperby).

Have had a good look at the Wharfedale & Craven pages: the Pritchards seemed to come to a dead end, but another branch of that family goes all the way back to about 1605. Unbelievable! It's a fantastic site, and a huge amount of work must have gone into it.
