Marriage Certificates & Parish Records
« on: Friday 30 October 09 11:58 UTC (UK) »

Is there any way of looking at a Marriage Certificate without having to purchase first? as i'm not 100% sure this is the correct one.

I'm trying to investigate the Marriage of a Rachel Green & Abel Swallow.
I have found a reference for June 1883, (Huddersfield 9a 344).

I would like to look up through Parish Records However I have no idea which Church they were married in, or how to put my finger on which one.

In the census of 1881 Rachel was married to William Green in the Parish of Thurlstone and consequently must of moved across to the Huddersfield area following the death of William.

Hi Chris

You can't see a marriage certificate without buying it - but, as you say, if you can identify the church then the parish register will give the same information.

Abel Swallow seems to have been born in Hepworth (which was in Huddersfield registration district) and still living there in 1881 (RG11/4372/155/2), so it might be worth checking the PRs for Holy Trinity, Hepworth.

Huddersfield & District Family History Society has some excellent local records including PR transcriptions: http://www.hdfhs.org.uk/
