I am probably alone but it has taken me 4 months and a strong prod from another rootchatter to explore this site. I am not sure how I missed it, possibly I tried it and mis-searched and assumed it was still fairly incomplete. I am now using it almost exclusively for BMD index references as it is so much quicker and easier. I may be preaching to the converted but on the possibility there is anyone out there as slow on the uptake as me do try it as it is GREAT. regards Sarenid

Yep Annie I am almost embarassed to admit the fact that I went through every marriage index for about 4 years to try and match a David Thomas who married a Mary Ann Williams. Never mind opening on Ancestry every marry in carmarthenshire for a john williams to try and find one where he 'might' have married a Rachel. What a relief to discover BMD even if I was slow to join the party.

It is indeed a great site- and amazing considering the huge number of transcriptions done & checked by volunteers.

Yes it really is a great site and the folk who give up their time to do the transcribing deserve a big pat on the back.
Another free site for civil registrations is this one - I use it a lot for Lancashire BMDs.
