Thomas Porter
« on: Friday 30 October 09 14:21 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I wonder please if some kind person with access to the parish transcripts could look up 2 marriages for me.

Thomas Porter  to Sarah Campbell 18th April St Mary, Nottinghamshire, England
and
Thomas Porter to Hannah Daws 28 Jan 1850 St Pauls, Nottingham , England

I have seen the IGI transcriptions & was hoping there may just be some additional info.

My problem is Where was Thomas Porter from  Nottingham Or Leicestershire?HuhHuh

1841 says        Not of county Nottingham
1851 says     Leicestershire, England
1861 says        Nottingham
1871 says   Leicestershire, England

Leicestershire seems the more likely but I need to prove it somehow to enable me to go back with his line in confidence.

If nothing comes up I will order the 2nd marriage cert & hope a father is listed that may help me.

First things first lets hope for some additional info

Thanks in advance for ant time taken

Regards Judi

You missed the year for Thomas and Sarah's marraige, but I found them on the Notts FHS cd - 1825. Sadly there's no more info than you've already given.

Back in a mo when I've looked for the other marraige!

He a Cordwainer
She a Drefs Maker

Residence for both parties listed as Goose Gate

Father to Thomas Porter was William Porter a Brush Maker

Hi Judi

I have checked the 1841 census name index for William Porter and there isn't one who gives his occupation as Brush Maker. What year was Thomas born?

Hi Carol

Many thanks for your time. Its much appreciated

Thomas  seems to be very unsure as to when he was born  Sad

1841 says 1806 not in county
1851 says 1806 Leic
1861 says 1801 Nott
1871 says 1811 Leic

Death record in 1878 says approx birth 1806

So as you can see the best guess would be born 1806 in Leic

I was hoping the marriage cert may be of more use but as they were both of full age & the first marriage was prior to 1837,  I've come to a standstill .

Kind regards Judi

I searched the Notts FHCD for all Thomas Porters with a father William, baptised between 1800 - 1820, and came up with none. Sad

Perhaps you should post on the Leic board.
