I hope I am on the right site, otherwise I apologise if you have seen this twice.
JOHN ARMITAGE married 14 August 1808 JUDITH CLAYTON Mottram in Longdendale IGI Entry.
Could someone please check this entry and see what other details are given, occupation, witnesses etc. I'm sorry I don't know which Church.
With thanks Barnsie Australia

Hello Barnsie
I will see if I can find anything out for you . The Church will probably be St . Michaels but I will let you know as soon as I can , possibly towards the end of the week .
Regards

Dear Eric,
Thank you so much for this offer. I don't know which Church, but usually there were a couple of witnesses. I have just been given a tad more by a Local Studies Library, one witness was a Richard Clayton, I wonder if there was another, whether it was Protestant or RC, anything at all.
It is certainly looking promissing. I look forward to hearing from you when time permits.
Many thanks, Robyn

Hello Robyn
Have checked it out but not much more to add . Entry 39 John ARMITAGE of the Parish of Mottram and Judith CLAYTON of the same parish were married in this church by banns this fourteenth day of August in the year one thousand eight hundred and eight. John signed and Judith made her mark . One witness was a definite CLAYTON with a possible christian name of Richard . The other witness was slightly illegible . Could have possibly been an ARMITAGE and maybe Sarah /James .
Not sure if you can send a personal message to me but I have taken photos of the entry and I will send them if you give me your E mail address. The church was St. Michaels in Mottram . Church of England and it is still there if you are happy with the findings and you need a photo of it then let me know . I live about 3 miles from it .. Good luck
Eric

Hi Eric,
I hope you got my personal reply. In any case, many thanks indeed for this very interesting information. As this couple was married by Banns and as this JOHN ARMITAGE was of this Parish of Mottram, would it be at all possible to check these two entries in your next visit to St. Michaels or wherever you last found the Marriage info.
I have not found a birth for said John Armitage who in 1841 is stated as being born abt. 1790. The Banns may have another signature as well.
The Bride Judith Clayton, I can only assume was living in Mottram at the time, as she wasn't born there.
Again, your help is very much appreciated. Many thanks. Barnsie.
