Hi there
I am looking to find the SPOUSE of Percival Harrap b1881 Sale Victoria (birth certificate he was registered as Percival Bennett and unknown father) his mother Elizabeth married same year to James Henry HARRAP sometimes misspelt as Harrop and he was brought up a Harrap.
He was married and had children, one being Laurence James Harrap b 1803 Mount Gambia, South Australia. So I know he used the Harrap name when he married.
I have looked at the online Victoria registers and cannot find any entry there so I am hoping that as his son Laurence was born in SA then that's where they were married..unless they didn't?!!
Any pointers will be really appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.
Sue

The details of the following index entries confirm the Percival William ROSEY and Percival William HARRAP is the same person.
HARRAP Charles Ernest 10 December 1906 Father Percival William ROSEY Mother Maud Matilda MARRIA At Rosaville Gre 776/4 Cross Reference See also - ROSEY Charles Ernest
HARRAP Allan Edwin 20 January 1914 Fathe: Percival William ROSEY Mother Maud MARRIA At Compton Gre 928/151 Cross Reference See also- ROSEY Allan Edwin
HARRAP Iris Louine 21 July 1922 Father Percival William HARRAP Mother Maud MARRIA At Compton Gre 101 A*/278
HARRAP Imelda Grace 25 October 1924 Father Percival William HARRAP Mother Maud Matilda MERRION At Compton Gre 144A*/448
A*. Amended Record. Clerical error identified and amended. Suspected Spelling errors in names have not been amended. Generally Place of Birth or District Spelling, mother and father entered in wrong columns.
Percival and Maud/e's marriage certificate would give you the names of her parents and hopefully the correct surname. https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/index-search?action=purchaseImage
Neither Percival nor Matilda were enrolled to vote in 1909 in South Australia.

Nice to see Cando back on the board, you have certainly helped enourmously with this thread as usual.
I had a quick look early this morning with the details given but nothing showed and hadn't the time to delve further,
no doubt Gruffallo should be happy with the work that you have done along with Raylen and Dalet

There are at least 3 of the sons of James HARRAP and Elizabeth ROSIE (reply #7) with records in the National Archives, 2 of which are digitised.
http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx
One born Rosedale (which is, i suspect, what ROS stamds for in the reg of the first daughter), one Mt Gambier. One of them has James as NoK and gives addresses for him in Rosedale and later in Footscray, Vic.

Wow! Thanks guys, you certainly have been busy whilst I was asleep.
I think Cando has nailed it and although all the name changes and spellings are very confusing, (thanks Raylen & Dalet!) I think I can get through it all and it makes sense. So family rumours are not quite right as Laurence was NOT the one to adopt the Rosey name in fact it was Percival. That makes much more sense.
In #8 from Cando "The details of the following index entries confirm the Percival William ROSEY and Percival William HARRAP is the same person". I notice both the girls entries are A* amended and are Harrap whereas the male births are Rosey and not. Wonder what the significance of that is. Will get going now and close this thread and post a new one if I get stuck again.
Thanks again, my first attempt to get help has exceeded my expectations by far.
Sue
There is more than enough to get on with and I was interested in the digitized NAA records as I haven't thought of using these before.
A big thanks
