Richard Barnard of Bradfield, Norfolk
« on: Friday 30 October 09 16:11 UTC (UK) »

I have posted a message on the resources section but one member has directed me to here.  If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

I have a Richard Barnard in my tree.  According to 1841 and 1851 census he was born in Bradfield, Norfolk and moved at some stage to Elm, Cambs.  He was married to Elizabeth.  Elizabeth who I don't know and I don't know when or where he married.  If anyone can help with this information it would be appreciated.   Wink

He had several children that I know of:  Robert Barnard b  circa 1817 Elm, Cambs who married i) Hannah Sydell and ii) Mary Ablett - I do have marriage cert for him which confirms fathers name.

and Samuel b 1820 circa Elm, Cambs - this came from 1841 and 1851 census.

I am stuck getting any further information on Richard and the elusive Elizabeth. and his ancestors.  Please help!!    Loupy  Huh

There are 2 Richard Barnards married at about the right time to an Elizabeth shown on Freereg.
Richard  married Elizabeth Meagers spinster at THORNAGE All Saints on 16/10 1804    Witnesses  John Barnard and William Drozier
Richard  married Elizabeth Taylor at ACLE  St Edmund on 16/8/1803.    Winesses  Anna Beech and Thomas Shingles

I dont know if one of these might be the one you want

Thank you Amber - is Thornage any where near Bradfield where Richard was born or on the way to Elm?  Showing my ignorance here - sorry!

The only info I have is what I posted so really don't know if one of them is my Richard.  Oh dear - I am just going in circles and can't get out of it.

I see from your answer that you have Andrews in your tree.  I am an Andrews (my maiden name) and have traced my Andrews back to Suffolk - is this any good to you.  One good turn deserves another?

Back to Richard  though - I suppose the only way is to find out if their son Robert had any siblings but whether I look in Norfolk or Cambs is another thing.

To answer your first question , I estimate from the map that Thornage is about 16 to 20 miles west of Bradfield, so remains a possibility.

Yes I do have Andrews in my tree or more correctly my husband does. His Grandmother was an Eliza Andrews form Wisbech.

I wish you luck with your Richard, is it possible to get to Norwich Record Office ?.

Amber - I live in Kent so journey to Norwich is not an easy one for me at the moment.

If anyone out there in RootsChat land could access Bradfield parish records and see if anything comes up on that it would be appreciated. See previous Posts re Richard Barnard, his wife Elizabeth and children (at least two that I know of).

I would like to knock this wall down.  Any help.......please?
