Hi all
I have been told that my Grandfather James Nicholas Donavan (poss Nicholas Donovan) was a great gambler and even owned a race horse called 'Donovan's Folly' in either Manchester or Liverpool in 1880 - 1905. Would anyone know how I could go about checking up on this? Thanks for any help. Lindon

Hi, have you tried the Jockey Club: possibly try googling it, it may well come up with some information. A friend of my husbands owns race horses, if you wish we could ask him and see if he knows the answer. It may prove ownership, breeder, dam & sire and the trainer. Any idea how long ago this was? My husbands Grt Uncle owned a famous horse called Miss (something) back in the 1970's/80's marcie

Thanks to all suggestions about finding "Donovans Folly" but so far no luck even from the Jockey Club. Never mind, I guess it was so long ago when he was racing (about 1890s I think) I quess he is well off any lists and probably lost most of his races anyway! Thanks again Lindon

Hi, Lindon, the length of time between a horse being born and its racing life and death does not make any difference. Just like our family history, the bloodlines of horses can be traced back years and many generations. Maybe even to the original dams and sires of 500 or so years ago. Do not give up hope. I will see what comes up. marcie
