Hi.

Charles Bowater on 1871 Census is listed as aged 18b Tipperary.

His parents are John & Mary Bowater. John b Cliff ? Northamptonshire  and Mary born in some undecipherable  place in Scotland.

Regards

Thanks John;

They wed at St Barts Liverpool.  I think it was probably Kingscliffe in Northants. These folk are extremely elusive - I have a hunch that John Bowater ( and maybe brother William) were excise officers, although other info I find suggests more like travelling folk.They were also linked to Berwick on Tweed and the Raysons of Kingscliffe, and there is a William B1772 "Master of a travelling caravan" who died falling off his horse up at Bonar Bridge.

Sorry I am waffling and trying all sorts of routes to tie up many loose ends.
