hi can anyone help me find out anything about the burkin family from bermondsey. i have no names i just know that my brother in laws grandad was a navy diver at portland bill in ww2.his father did not talk about his family and kept it quite for some reason. the burkin family lived in jamaica road in bermondsey. kind regards jayne  Smiley

According to the ONS site surnames of England and Wales there were 460 Burkins in England and Wales in 2002. I have only previously encountered this surname in South Yorkshire, and believe it originates in a village of that name near Selby.

hi yes during ww2.and the forties.my brother in law dad did not want anyone knowing anything i dont know why?. his grandad trained the divers in he navy kind regards jayne Wink

Sound like Official Secrets Act. There may be something about this training in Naval Records, I think at Greenwich.
