Look-up please. Doncaster Marriage
« on: Friday 30 October 09 20:28 UTC (UK) »

Thomas SNELL & Sarah ?

According to Census, Sarah was born in Doncaster.... so may have married there.

The family lived in Farsley, Calverley (1841 Census) eldest child, Thomas, was born 1837.

Would be grateful if someone could check for this missing Marriage please.

Thanks -
Sara.

Hi
This marriage is likely to be pre civil registration if the first child id born in 1837 so that means looking at parishe records.  Which ones have you already searched?  Getting a child's birth certificate would give her maiden name and make it much easier.

Yes, one of the later children has the middle name 'Asquith' so this could well be Sarah's maiden name...

I've checked the Calverley PR's... but found nothing there.

1851 shows Sarah was born Doncaster... so living in hope, they may have married there.

Thanks for your interest.

Hello Sarah,
Doncaster Parish records show that a John Snell married a Sarah Kipling on 22/12/1828 in Cantley,Doncaster. The witnesses were William Clarkson and Mary Poskit. There are no other records that I can find.
I have also looked at Calverley,Pudsey Parish church marriage and baptismal records from 1831 to 1837 and there is no further information.
You may have to approach Wakefield FHS who are helpful.
Good hunting
