Robert Sherman Wimbush is with his parents, Stephen & Bridget, in Water Orton, Oxfordshire in 1861 RG9-2186-F39-P1
In 1871 I can't find him for love, nor money.
1n 1881 he turns up RG11-3052-F80-P12 in Lea Marston, Warwickshire with a wife, Elizabeth, and 3 children Wiliam (1874 Long Eaton), Jane (1878 Lea Marston) & Anne (1879 Lea Marston).
1891 in Aston, Warwickshire RG12-2425-F84-P15 and there is another (older) child, George (1873, Long Eaton, Derbyshire),
Elizabeth was apparently from Long Eaton, Derbyshire born c.1846. She died in Q1 1896 - that's all I know of her.
Robert then marries Sarah Ann ROWE Q4 1896 in King's Norton. She already had one child, Dorothy (1892 Birmingham) , who Robert lists as his daughter with the Wimbush name in 1901.
Robert and Sarah had 2 more children, Maud (1901 Hanslope, Buckinghamshire) and Ernest (1903 Coleshill, Warwickshire).
By 1911 Sarah is living with Maud and Ernest and lists herself as a widow in Erdington, Warwickshire. Sarah notes 3 children born (and alive) which makes me wonder if she counted Dorothy as Robert's.
However, Robert is living with his daughter, Jane, from his first marriage, in Shardlow, Derbyshire as a widower. He notes that there were 4 children born (and still alive) to the present marriage - is he referring only to his first marriage, I wonder?
Where did Robert disappear to around 1871.
When/where did he marry Elizabeth?

Coincidence,1871 has a William Winbush born 1849 in Water Orton 1849 boarding in Long Eaton Derbyshire....RG10/3556/56/page 27.

I have to say I do believe you've found the chap. As Stephen & Bridget did not have a William.
They had Robert Sherman, George, Mary, Jane, Ann, Stephen, Charles and Joseph.
No William Wimbush's born in Water Orton (Aston reg district) up as far as 1870.
Wonder why he's using an "alternative" name.
I wonder if this is his marriage then Q3 1872 Shardlow 7b 579.
Unfortunately both grooms are William's and both brides are Elizabeth's

First born George Payne Wimbush, birth registered Shardlow (so probably born Long Eaton), baptised in Water Orton - father gives his name as Robert (IGI extracted).
Obviously, people in that area knew him and he used his "real" name.
