Henry & Elizabeth Tyler - Portsea - and Morgan & Fiander surnames
« on: Friday 30 October 09 23:09 UTC (UK) »

William & Elizabeth Tyler listed in IGI as having three children bapt. at St. Mary, Portsea: Henry b. 1800; William b. 1803; Joseph Edward b. 1806.

Henry married Sarah Morgan and went to Deptford, Kent
William married Elizabeth Fender/Fiander and went to Deptford Kent
Joseph Edward, no further info.

Looking to see if Sarah Morgan is the Sarah Ann Morgan b. 1805 at Portsea also bapt. at St. Mary, and

if Elizabeth Fender is originally from Portsea as well.

Both couples were married at St. Alphage in Greenwich but were the Morgans & Fianders also from Hampshire?

There is no certain way of telling if Sarah Morgan is Sarah Ann Morgan, unless you have her birth place from a later census and perhaps a will from her father or another relative which connects her to Henry Tyler.  Morgan is not an uncommon name.  Sad  However, if she came from Portsmouth area, then it is likely that she was Sarah Ann Morgan, since the other possibilities are either baptised in different places or are too young/old.

I get the impression that William Tyler may have moved to Greenwich/Deptford area before his sons married.  Would this be correct?  Or was it just his sons? This would not be unusual if he was a navy man or naval dockyard worker.  Many men transferred to the dockyards at Deptford or Woolwich in the early 19th century.

There are a number of Fiander baptisms in Portsea, including an Eliza in 1804.
