1930 Snohomish or King County census
« on: Saturday 31 October 09 01:44 UTC (UK) »

Hello-

For years my mother stated that she thought her great aunt Christie had been married 3 times.  Years of research and I could only turn up 2 marriages.  Thanks to a very recent update of the Washington State Digital Archives I have found her 3rd marriage which at least gives me her second husband's surname.

Christina/Christine nee McLellan first married WJ Greer 1881 and remained so until his 1917 death.  In 1920 census she is still Greer, and I found in 1922 Everett, Snohomish (listed in Arlington) directory as still a Greer.  In 1955, 56, & 57 directories she is Gimse, and her 1957 obit shows her as Mrs. Michael Gimse.

The recently updated marriages show she married Gimse on 22 January 1941 in Seattle (King Co).  So sometime between 1922 and 1940 she had married a man named Jacobson (or Jacobsen).

Can anyone find a Chistin(a/e) Jacobson in (most likely) Snohomish county in 1930?  She would have been about 70 years old and born Canada.

Many thanks.

Additional info just found (8:15pm Pacific daylight time):

A Jack Jacobson is buried adjacent to Christina's 3rd husband Gimse, and her youngest sister Anna McLellan Olmsted in Arlington Cem. which led me to believe Christie buried them all.  I checked some death certs for 1930 and found that this Jack died 10 Oct 1930 in Arlington and his wife's name was Christina.  WooHoo!

Would still like census info if found for 1930.

Hi Sandra,

Yes it is, thank you.  Might I ask whether Jack Jacobson has an occupation listed in 1930?  I have been trying to find him in earlier censuses, but being called "Jack" he might be a John or a Jacob, etc.  If he has an occupation in 1930 (other than farmer or rancher) it might be easier.

I find one Jack in Bryant (b Minnesota) in 1920, but age is off by 10 years.  He is a machinist.

Regards,

Nick

Ouch - far cry from a machinist.  I do have a picture of Christie on her chicken farm, although she tended to give it a bit more pizzazz by calling it a "ranch".

Thanks,

Hi Nick.

Yes, he is difficult.

Jack - Age at marriage 50. Born in 1873 that makes it 1923. So its looking for a single male if he isn't with parents earlier.

Christina - Age at marriage 18.

I just put in a request to Random Acts of Gen. Kindness for a check of this marriage in Snohomish County.

Interesting that Jack's first marriage was at 50 and he married a much older woman.   Christina was born as early as July 1860 and as late as July 1862.  This made her a minimum of 21 years older than Jacobson if they married in 1923.   So at least I know to probably look for single Jacobsons in prior censuses, so that narrows things down.

Who his ancestors were isn't that important since he was not related, and they certainly didn't have kids.   My primary interest was determining if she truly did have 3 husbands, and that is now known.

Thanks again.

The age difference was 10 - 13 years surely.

1873 for Jack.

Keep looking at a WW1 Draft 1917-1918 for Jack Jacobsen - birth 16 Dec 1873.  He would be in Brooklyn Kings. Next of kin sister Alma Jacobsen and Christian ........ can't quite read it.

Thank you for pointing out and clarifying.
