I'm trying to get some information on my two great uncles John McMullan and Edward McMillan, they were brothers but spelled their surnames differently.
My Father, their nephew, visited John McMullan in the 1950s but was unaware Edward was also in Detroit at the time.
It's proving rather difficult to get certificates from the US so any advice or assistance would be most welcome.
Edward MCMILLAN (14 Dec 1892 - 10 Feb 1987) son of James Patrick MCMULLAN (1865-1929) and Mary DIVERS (1868-1933), born on 14 December 1892 in Bridgeton, Glasgow, Scotland. married Mary MCGRAIL on 31 January 1913 at St Francis Church in GLASGOW Scotland. Served in WW1 in the Highland Light Infantry and the Tank Corps had the following children: Edward MCMILLAN (11 Nov 1913 - 10 Feb 1987) Thomas MCMILLAN (18 Feb 1918 - 20 Sep 1978) Grace MCMILLAN (1920/21- )
In the 1930 Federal census they appear at 9343 Felch Avenue Detroit along with Patrick MCGRAIL
John MCMULLAN (20 Jan 1895 - 13 Aug 1980) son of James Patrick MCMULLAN and Mary DIVERS born on 20 January 1895 in Bridgeton, Glasgow, Scotland. Emigrated to the US on 6 August 1927 arriving in New York, bound for Orange New Jersey. He may have also lived in Chicago/Cook County Illinois but by 1958 he was resident in St Clair Shores, Macomb, Michigan. He died on 13 August 1980 in Saint Clair Shores.
He had at least 2 daughters born before 1958
Possible wife Catherine (17 Sep 1901 - 23 Mar 1981) death registered in Grosse Pte Farms, Wayne, Michigan

I don't know all that much about Michigan, but as far as I know, there are two main options for ordering vital records: 1) Ordering from the state http://www.michigan.gov/documents/deathapp_6467_7.pdf It has to be done in US funds. or 2) www.vitalrec.com I believe they tack on fees, but I think you can order via credit card & it may cheaper for you than trying to get a US money order. I've never tried to use them, so I can't vouch for their service.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, I've had a look at both those methods, Vital Check via Ancestry won't ship outside the US, and if I use the online option via the Michigan vital records office I get sent to http://www.vitalchek.com/michigan-express-vital-records.aspx where I can't complete the process as I don't have a US SSN to verify my identity.
I have no Idea how I'd get hold of a US Money order in the UK, but I guess I'll have to look into that option.
