Bulwick Baptism Allett
« on: Saturday 31 October 09 15:29 UTC (UK) »

Hi,
Is there anyone out there who can check if there is a baptism of a Thomas Allett born 1781 ish in Bulwick, On the 1841 census he was a Publican in Braunston Leicestershire aged 60 but They rounded the ages off in 1841.
He was married to a Martha and I'm afraid that,s all the info I have on this man. Would appreciate any help on this baptism
Regards

Not sure are Braunston Leicestershire and Braunston Rutland the same place  Huh

IGI has a marriage batch M150051 Thomas Allett and Martha Reason 30th June 1812 at Braunston Rutland.

How do you know he was born at Bulwick?

Rosie

added  there are some Allett baptisms in this parish including a possible Thomas batch no C150051

Hi Rosie,
Thankyou for the quick response to my posting,
On the 1861 census Thomas says he was born in Nassington, but have been sent an old letter dated 1985 from another family historian who saw my name on the web and thinks the Allets were from Bulwick.

There are 2 Braunston's 1 in Leics & and 1 in Rutland,  All adds to the confusion , !!!!!

Didn't realise you had him on other census - perhaps a bit more information on him and Martha could help us to find the marriage as well as his baptism  Huh

I see the Leicestershire Braunston has an E on the end, hence the confusion  Grin

with Martha.and children

Eliza 25
Louise 15 all children born in Braunston

1851, (sorry i put 1861)
Thomas 72 (widow) Publican  b Nassington

Trying to find his birth,, tried Nassington , then came the letter which someone says they thought the  family came from Bulwick

Hi

The 1841 is Rutland - which would tie in nicely with the IGI marriage fro Thomas Allett and Martha Reason in 1812.  Also that Braunston is a bit closer to Nassington and Bulwick than the Leicestershire Braunstone.

IGI also has baptism for Louisa with parent's Thomas Allett and Martha Reason 28th November 1824, Braunston, Rutland batch no l049498 - there are some other possible daughters on this batch number including Eliza bapt 18th December 1814. It looks like this is one of the IGI extraction programmes where they are only extracting the girls!

Still doesn't solve Thomas's birth though  Huh

If it was me I would be looking at Braunston (Rutland) Parish registers to see who the witnesses were on the wedding of Thomas and Martha.  I think it is too much of a coincidence that there are Allett baptisms in this parish who could be Thomas's siblings. There is a baptism for a Thomas but it doesn't tie in with him saying he is 72 in 1851
