Alethea Keyworth - Doncaster/Wakefield - birth?
« on: Saturday 31 October 09 15:52 UTC (UK) »

In the 1841 census I have an Alethea Keyworth aged 15 living in Upper Westgate with her father John Keyworth (40, tailor), mother Sarah (45) and her siblings Elizabeth (20) and John (10). In later census returns she is sometimes listed as being born in Wakefield but other times listed as being born in Doncaster.

Can anyone help in finding out whether she was born in Wakefield or Doncaster?

I am interested in tracing back from Alethea? I think her father John Keyworth was born in the Doncaster area in about 1801.

Thanks,

Hi Jenet4

According to the IGI there is a Alathea Keyworth christened 6 July 1833, Wakefield to John and Sarah.

It looks like the same parents also christened a Harriet and a John the same day.

Hello Jenet4,
An examination of Doncaster parish records shows no sign of an Alethea Keyworth or ( Keywarth )
John Keyworth in Thorne 1829,appears to be married to Ann Barley in Thorne 26/3/1817 by licence.

Hi KLM,

Thank you for your reply. I am not sure if the Keyworths you have listed are connected to the family I am researching.

I suspect the christening in Wakefield may be the correct one as it looks as though several children of John & Sarah were christened at the same time. This means that Alithea would have been about 7 when she was christened so although she was christened in Wakefield she still could have been born in Doncaster.

My only clue to the possible origins of this family is Alithea's name. It is not a very common name and in the IGI there is an Alithea Keyworth christened in Conisbrough in 1799. I am wondering if she is an Aunt or some relative of "my" Alithea.

Also, from the IGI, I have wondered if the marriage of a John Keyworth to a Sarah Rigley on 30 Nov 1817 at Cathedral Saint Peter, Sheffield is a possibility for her parents.

However, again thank you so much for taking the trouble to look the Keyworths up for me.
