Hi all: I have not been able to find my 3x great grandfather James Slater and family in the 1861 U.K. census. Since he was born on Bradshaw Lane in Ovenden in 1825 and was enumerated on Bradshaw Lane in 1841, '51. and '71, I am assuming that he was there in 1861.
He would likely have been with wife Susey/Susy and children Emma, Mary, Hannah, and John Henry.
It is possible that the name was spelled Slaytor, as it was in 1841 and 1851. The birth of a son was registered in Halifax in 1857 and a daughter was registered in Halifax in 1862, making it unlikely but not impossible that James Slater and his family were living elsewhere in 1861.
Thanks in advance.
John

Hi Isobel: Thanks for your interest. If it helps narrow the search, Bradshaw Lane currently runs through the village of Bradshaw, which is to the north of Illingworth. I am a long distance away from Halifax, Ovenden, Bradshaw, etc. and rely for geographic information on online maps.
My 1851 and 1871 census images both have Bradshaw Lane in the village of Bradshaw, which in turn is in the township of Ovenden. Perhaps the confusion lies in the fact that Ovenden in the 19th century was both a village and a larger township.
Regards, John
