Hello Helen

I have COOK relatives.  Don't know if you have these:

My ggg grandmother, Elizabeth WOOD married John Jones COOK in February 1942 at St Mary's Church Dallington Northampton.

The family lived in the St James Area.

Regards

Hi.

They may not be direct relatvies, but my dad was born in 1942 only down the road in Jimmy's End, so they could be distant relatives.  I haven't looked into all the possible relatives yet, but my Granddad Cooke didn't have any neices or nephews as his brother died in the first world war, but there could be relatives from my great granddad (Harry Cook) floating around.

Also, I'm not sure why, but the 'e' was introduced in my granddads generation....

Ah, so we have a gap of 100 years, then  Grin

My couple had one son before they married (Elizabeth was a widow before she married John).  William COOK (COOKSON on the 1841 census as that was Elizabeth's first husband's name) was born about 1839 but I can't find a registration.

I don't know what happened to William.  I must have a look round the censuses for him.

Cook is a very popular name, but I will look into it when I get the chance.... It might take me a while though.

I've found William in 1861 in St James Road aged 22, unmarried, with his parents and uncle James WOOD but no sign of him in 1871.  His parents had died by then.  There is a death of a William COOK in 1863 but unfortunately it's too early to have an age recorded on the index.  Undecided

The only Williams I have in my tree were born in Hardingstone, Newport Pag and Shenley (Bucks) but none match the same date as yours.

Ah, well.  Never mind!

I think mine must have died without marrying.  He had an awful job, Puddler at the Ironstone works.  I think it was quite dangerous.

Good luck with the COOK(E)'s  Smiley
