Hi Folks,
I wonder if anyone out there could help? I've hit a brick wall with Sarah Young nee Clark, born about 1838 in Derby, this info varies in different census reports.
She married James Young in 1855 or 1866 in Durham, depending on which child's birth cert' you are looking at. They had 5 children that I know of, they are: Rebecca abt: 1857 Derby Mary Ann 1859 Edinburgh John 1861 Aberdeen William 1869 Kinross Sarah 1874 Stirling.
I have all birth, marriage, death cert's for all the children except Rebecca.
My problem is that I cannot find Sarah Clark's death cert'. I know that she moved back to Darlington in 1881, the year of her husbands death, her daughter Mary Ann lived nearby with her husband Thomas Mosesand their 2 children. (Winter quarters I presume)
I do know that she died before 1891 (daughter Sarah's marriage to George Robertson in Coatbridge).
As you can see there is a 10 year window between '81 and '91 when she could have died.
I've gone through the Free BMD for both Clark(e) and Young and could find nothing, there are too many hits on SP and none with the Clark/Young combination.
Any pointers or leads would be most welcome as my head hurts....
Jane

Hi Shane,
Thankyou for the look up, I also saw the death entry for Sarah in the Free BMD on Ancestry, I think I'll have to bite the bullet and send for it.
I usually use Scottish records, (most of my lot ended up there) so I'm not sure how much info the English one's give, would they give spouse and parents names do you know?
I sent away for a marriage cert' for James and Sarah last year, but I'm not convinced it's the right one. It was dated 11/07/1856 and said James father was John (correct) occupation Potter?? he was an earthenware dealer, do you think they would have put potter as a general term?? I would have thought a potter was a potter...if you see what I mean. Sarah's father is said to be a laborer... more confusion. Witnesses, John Young (father or brother??) and Mary Fowller, I think, surname difficult to read.
On three of the children's birth cert's their marriage date is 1/3/1855, on the fourth it is 15/3/1856, which would match the one you found.
How did you find the month's in your searches, I can only come up with quarter's.
You can see now why my head aches...
Once again thankyou for your time and getting back to me, every little clue helps.
Jane.

Hi Margaret,
Thankyou ....one step closer, if I could read the surname of the second witness I could do a trace on her to see if she was also a traveler....another job to do...

Hi Jane, the months are quarters as shown on bmd, so your marriage cert dosnt look to be the correct one as july is in another quarter, a death cert will show spouse, address but i dont think it will show parents, they do sometimes offer other bits of trivial information, for the sake of £7 its better to order a cert just to help keep your sanity lol. Happy hunting Shane.

Hi Shane,
I think your right Shane £7 is cheap for a bit of peace of mind..lol out with the purse...forget the bills
Hi Margaret,
John Young did marry Margaret Cunningham, they were my G/Grandparents, Grandma was Jane Young who married my lovely Grandad John Parkinson (pictured), he was not a traveler.
George Robertson was a Puddler, born Lanarkshire I don't know too much about him, as I've not had time to research him yet, Sarah married for a second time to John McKeown occupation Hamerman, in 1920.
On a side note, Sarah's death cert' says that her Father John Young was a Ironworks Laborer, the informant was Sarah's son John Robertson....not sure, but this sound like the old story of changing your heritage to fit in once you've settled down? A shame really but understandable
