Walter Thompson master baker Grimsby
« on: Sunday 01 November 09 11:04 UTC (UK) »

Hi all

Does anyone have any information about a master baker called Walter Thompson, he was my dads uncle, unfortunately i can't ask my dad for info as he passed away earlier this year.  We didn't know about this side of the family until i started doing the tree, we always thought my dads family came from Walsall.

I know Walters grandfather, George R Thompson, was also a baker and a grocer and believe he had people working for him.  Are there any old photo's of a bakers in Cleethorpes road 148 Blundell Street that anyone knows of.

I'm just trying to put flesh on the bones now for a while, as i'm getting stuck on looking for names and dates.

Any help or ideas greatly appreciated

Hi Charlotte

The earliest record i have at the moment is 1881 census where it says 250 cleethorpes road and two servants living with them, i'm presuming they worked for them, or could i be wrong.

the next census is1891 and says 254 cleethorpes road and stillstates he is baker and grocer as it does on the 1881. but he doesn't have the two servants on this one, but a new assistant.

Regards

Definately the right family, there is a Sarg Thompson on one of my census records, 1891, don't know why i haven't got 1901 census records??? will have to have a look.

You're a wealth of information then with that disc?

Thanks for what you have given me so far

Hi

No i haven't got that info, i don't know how to get onto the absent voters lists, or even the ones that aren't absent.  It appears that i'm surrounded by soldiers in both the Smiths and Thompsons in my tree.  I do however have a photo of a Walter Thompson in his Navy uniform that i was sent by someone from ancestry.

I need some discs like the ones you have for Smiths, but i reckon i would be searching the disc for years with that name, although i have got quite far.

How many times can one person say thanks to another, thanks again for all the info, if you have more, then keep it coming  Smiley
