Lovell`s of Dorset
« on: Sunday 01 November 09 11:04 UTC (UK) »

One of my family, John Munday, b. 1767, married (or had children with) Anna Lovell in the Stour Provost area of Dorset.   I have the details of their children, but Anna is a bit of a mystery.   Can anyone provide any info, please?   Peter Munday

Hi Peter and welcome to rootschat.

Have you looked thru the IGI?

That's probably asking the obvious but we need to know where you have looked so the same ground isn't covered again.

Hi Peter,

When and where was the first child baptised?

Have you checked the records availabe on the Dorset OPC site?

http://www.opcdorset.com

There is a baptism for a John, son of John & Christian Munday, 1st July 1767, at Stour Provost.  Is this your John?

Hi,

1) John Munday Stower(Stour) Provost. married Mary Lovell 21/2/1792 by licence at Kingston Magna, Dorset;witnesses Robert Lovell and Anthony Abarrow. (Not Anna)

2) You may have this; John Munday, Stour Provost died aged 89 years 28/6/1849-St Michaels.

3) Mary Lovell baptised 15/6/1772-baseborn daughter of ? Morden, Dorset. This is just as it was recorded! Not sure what baseborn means as I haven't come across this before. Maybe a foundling?
regards.

Hi,   Thanks for the prompt replies.
Charlotte, yes I have checked IGI with no success.

Nanny Jan, first child was Elizabeth, b.19.Feb.1786.

paco, I have all of that thanks.  The marriage record says Mary, but all the baptism records give the mothers name as Anna.   Base-born means, I believe, father and mother not married.
I have searched just about every record I could find to no avail, and I was just hoping that there was a Lovell descendant who could help.   I am grateful for your interest and efforts,   Pete
