Enterpen near Hutton Rudby
« on: Sunday 01 November 09 11:15 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone tell me anything about Enterpen in North Yorkshire, near Hutton Rudby.

In the 1830s which would be the most likely church for baptisms?

hi, found this info on Genuki n.yorks:

"HUTTON RUDBY, or Hutton juxta Rudby, in the parish of Rudby, wapentake and liberty of Langbargh; ½ mile WSW. of Rudby, 4 miles SW. of Stokesley. An extensive, pleasant and populous village adjacent to the small village of Rudby, wherein is situated the parish church, there being at Hutton only a Methodist chapel, and one for the Primitive Methodists lately erected. Here is likewise a Union Sunday School, capable of containing one hundred and ten children. Linen is manufactured at this place to a considerable extent. Population, 919."

looks like Rudby

Enterpen is an area (road) within Hutton Rudby.  HR is on the south bank of the river Leven and Rudby is on the North bank.  Even now it is not a very large village.

The other query about Enterpen is here

Where did you find the first two variations and how did you come up with Enterpen?  Smiley

Hello Diddymiller and Madpants, thanks for your replies.

Enterham / Eggeven / Enterpen:
I suspect there may be a connection between Ambrose Burnside who in 1871 says he was born in Enterham but 1881 in Guisborough,  and my g-grandmother Mary Smith who 1871 and 1881 says she was born Guisborough but suddenly in 1901 says Eggeven nr Yorks.  Neither place existed and I wondered if in a Yorkshire dialect could Enterpen have sounded like Enterham or Eggeven.

Looks like there is a parish church in Rudby - this gives me something to look for as I cannot find Mary pre 1863.

Thanks for your help
