All of them conducted marriages at that church during the years you mentioned

It's certainly worth a look around the grave yard then.  I am just trying to find the church, I think it is Kirkham Road.  Many thanks

Hi Milly

There is no longer a grave yard at St.Johns in Preston, Thomas Lingard  maybe buried in Preston Cemetery, the cemetery opened in 1855.

Many thanks Simon, just looked up the cemetery.  Wondering if its worth spending £6 for information on the grave stones.  Then when I come up to Preston I will not be disappointed if its not the ones I am looking for.  It happened when I went searching in Liverpool cemetery, everyone had grave stones except for my lot!

Hi Milly

I have just looked at Lancashire BMD and Thomas Lingard died in 1897 in the Preston sub-district of St.Peters, so I will have a look at the graveyard there first

Hi Milly

Bad news, Thomas Lingard wasn't buried in St.Peters Churchyard

Good news he was buried in Preston Cemetery on 21/08/1897, C of E Section S, Plot 336, his address according to the Burial Register was 956 Thomas Rd, Preston.  The address does not exist, it is more likely to be St.Thomas Road.

The plot was purchased by the above Thomas Lingard in 11/12/1884 to bury what I believe to be his daughter Susannah age 5

In date order, folk buried in the plot are as follows...

11/12/1884  Susannah Lingard   Age 5    Coffin    Depth 20'

21/08/1897  Thomas Lingard  Age 63   Coffin   Depth 18'6''

03/01/1900  Susannah Lingard  Age 57   Coffin   Depth  16'

17/04/1926  Thomas Lingard  Age 46  Coffin  Depth 14'

12/06/1926  John Lingard  Age 60  Coffin   Depth 12'

27/05/1940  Elizabeth Ann Lamb  age 58   Coffin   Depth  9'

21/08/1941  Ernest Lingard   Age 58    Coffin     Depth 7'6''

29/05/1956  Susannah Lingard  Age  69   Coffin   Depth  6'

02/11/1956  William Lingard  Age 71   Coffin    Depth 4'6''

The bad new is that there is no gravestone, I have taken a photo of the plot if you'd like to see it

Regards

I really do not know what to say, I have tears in my eyes.  You have managed to find the grave of most of the family, including my grandfather.  I need to go through the list properly, which I shall do tomorrow when I have recovered.  The address I have for Thomas is 120 St. Thomas Street, he did also live at 30 Brookfield Street.  I do not know how you managed to find out all this information, I just hope you didn't get too wet!  Again thank you so much, I will definitely come to Preston in the New Year to visit the grave.  I cannot believe how many people buried in one grave.  I am just stunned and of course emotional.  Many many thanks. xx

I have just looked at the 1891 Census and was amazed to find 8 of the family were buried in that plot, I wonder where Susan and Robert Lingard were buried ?

Out of interest, which one is your Grandfather ?

Good morning!  Just getting out all papers to start!  My grandfather was John Lingard, I have no idea what happened in the family long back, but I knew nothing about any grandparents until I started searching.  You have opened up a new route to go along, re William, I have found he married Margaret  Cottam, they had I think 3 children, John, Margaret and Ellen.  Ellen married Frank Yates, so I will get some certificates to prove I am not going down the wrong alley and check the 1911 census.  One day I will find some pictures of grandparents.  Thank you once again for your time, you have given me new hope in the search.
