I am researching my Mothers side of the family and have come to a dead end !!

Mother Irene Ethel NATION b1913 Reading
Grandfather Frederick James NATION b1882 Reading
Great Grandfather Thomas NATION b1843 Stratfield Saye

Frederick had 7 siblings and I am unable to find Marriage or Death records for most of them.  Angry

Help please

PS this is my first post so if I am doing it wrong please say so. Smiley

For anyone looking the 1881 has the following children for Thomas and Anne Nation
Annie c 1871
Alice c1872
Edith E c 1874
Sidney T c 1876
Emma c 1879
Minnie c1880
Arthur H 1881  all born Reading

1851 - HO107/1692; Folio: 553; Page: 15 - Reading St Giles
Regents Wharf

 
Henry ?Hold~~? 38 Head Journeyman Cooper born Reading
Sarah do 33 Wife born Stratfield Saye
Thomas Nation 7 Nephew Scholar Strafield Saye
Jane Wright 30 Visitor


I think the name must be 'Holdup' based on this marriage from FreeBMD:-

Marriages Jun 1846 
 
HOLDUP  Henry George    Basingstoke Vol 7 page 105    to    Nation  Sarah     


I'll have a look to see if he was 'back home' in 1861, and/or other clues to 'Nations' from Stratfield S ...

It looks like Thomas their father died in June qtr 1883 Reading Reg dist 2c 242 age 39

Annie - June qtr 1895   2c 737 - Frederick William Bush or Harry Edward Dearlove

Edith Ellen - Sept qtr 1899   2c 803 - Walter Edward Lovegrove or George Edward Maggs

Emma - June qtr 1908   2c 777 -- Harry Thomas Blake or  Henry John House

Minnie -  June qtr 1910  2c 690  - George Bennett   or Thomas William J Pullman  or  Guy Maurice Saunders

Altho there is a George & Mary Nation in Stratfield Mortimer in 1851, with kids of an age to be Thomas' siblings, he is still with the Holdups in 1861 in Reading ...

1861 - RG9/748; Folio: 88; Page: 30 - Reading St Giles
10, Mount Pleasant

Thomas is now a Cooper (maybe apprenticed to his Uncle ?)

another useful clue is that Sarah (nee Nation) has her 89 year old Mother Ann Nation staying with them.

Ann was born in Overton ... and will be Thomas Grandmother.

Hi

In case you aren't aware you can search freebmd after 1911 for births by putting in the mothers maiden surname only
There is a birth for a Maggs in September qtr 1911 Reading mmn Nation so looks like Edith Ellen married Gge Maggs

I think you will need to get Thomas' Birth Cert to confirm some of these findings.

Looks like the FreeBMD transcribers couldnt decide on the Page # tho ....

I've looked at the original Index Page image and I think its '56' - esp. as the expected page range for this district is 47 to 61 ......

Worth checking if the IGI gives any clues from available Parish Registers ......

It looks as though Sydney Tom married in Fulham reg district June qtr 1900 to Ellen Jane Hine  OR Louisa Ann King  ref 1a 572

Arthur Henry bn March qtr 1881 died September qtr 1895 Reading RD  2c 311 age 14

At Reading unless stated otherwise.

Thomas b 2 Dec 1843  d Jun 1883, Married Anne Kirk (b 1842 Oxfordshire d Dec 1926) on Sep 1868.
Thomas's Parents James Nation b 1809 Mortimer Berks d 1853. Matha Dickins b 1810 Hampshire d 1846.
Thomas & Anne had 8 Children. They were:-
Annie Sep b1871. No trace after 1891 census. Marriage ?. I think she was still alive in 1960, Daughter Alice?
Alice Maud bMar 1872. No trace after 1911 census. Marriage/Died ?
Edith Ellen bDec 1873 dSep 1918. Married George Maggs (b1875 d Mar 1929) in 1898 Had 6 Children. I have good info on this one.
Sidney Tom bSep 1875 Married Louisa Ann King (bMar 1877 Stepney) on 16 Apr 1900. Had 5 Children . All I
           have is their names and birth dates. No Info after 1911.
Emma bJun 1877 No trace after 1911 census. Married/Died ?
Minnie bDec 1879 No trace after 1901 census. Married/Died ?
Arthur Henry bMar 1881 dSep 1895.
Frederick James (my Grandfather) b27 oct 1882. Married Daisy Coxhead (b2 Jan 1888 Peckham) on
       14 Sep 1907  Cannot find any death info for them.
