Hello Eilleen
I presume you have already found William in the 1841 census but just in case there is a William Exton residing at St Leonard’s Street, St Georges, Stamford and listed as 60 years of age and a Male Servant.
Also living at the same address is Elizabeth Exton age shown as 55 and Edgar Reed age 20 and a Carrier.

Hello Geoff
I'm pretty sure those are the Almshouses in Station Road Stamford and backing onto the River Welland. I think they may also be referred to as Lord Burghleys’s Almshouses.

Alan thank you for the census iformation, I have never been able to get my head round William and William, ?? i.e who is who.
20/1/1847: William Exton absconded workhouse.
3/3/1847: William Exton regarding his apprehension and 7 year sentence for transportation
19/7/1848: William Exton, St. George, inflamed leg, given relief. (I think this means he wasn’t in the workhouse itself)
. 26th June 1848, William Exton, died in the Bede house, Stamford.
However, the older Wm died 26 June 1848 in Bedihouse, Saint Martin’s, Stamford so may entry three belongs to the younger Wm?

That's my relly going for a holiday in Burmuda but I don't think its the ones I was looking for in Stamford,
If I had known about yours , I would have looked at the headstones when I went round the Exton graveyard.

Hi again Eilleen
Just to confuse matters even more I've come across the burial as being on the 28 June 1849 for William Exton age 77
Place of burial: Stamford Baron, Dedication: St Martin
This was an NBI Source with the county shown as Northamptonshire. St Martins in Stamford was also know as Baron and is I believe that small section of the town that used to just jut into Nothants.

The date (but not the year) of the burial you found looks right for Eilleen's man. I've seen dates out by a year before in the NBI. I expect that's the case in this instance. Strangely enough the BMD shows the death as being June Q 1849
