Thanks for your reply. I just don't know whether to believe the ages on the census reports. My main problem is that I don't know the areas of Northumberland so its taking simply ages to sort through. I'm sitting with my map book in front of me (its that bad!).
I looked at all the census reports and Joseph seems to have been born in Kyloe (1851), Lowick (1861, 1871, 1881). I have a feeling he may have been presbyterian because I found records on family search for some of his children at United Presbyterian Church, Cheviot Street, Wooler.
I wonder if I need to think outside the box - I'm assuming that he married his wife Mary (as shown on census returns) in Kyloe/Lowick although on the 1851 census it states she was born in Scotland - she was dead by 1861 so its all rather vague.
Am I correct in thinking that the nearest Scottish County to Kyloe would be Berwickshire?
Many thanks for your advice

Belford West Street Presbyterian Register has the entry for the baptism of Joseph Henderson in 1834 -
4 March 1834. Joseph, 3rd child & 2nd son of Joseph Henderson (labourer) of Chatton Mill & Mary Grey his wife, born 25 February 1834.
Lowick Presbyterian Register has a baptism of a Joseph Henderson son of George and Jane Henderson of Lowick Parish on 10 May 1804, born 1 May 1804.

The best site for information on the area is the Northumberland Communities site at http://communities.northumberland.gov.uk/
I think Joseph born in 1804 is a good candidate for being your Joseph, but it is too soon to say for certain. There are several Henderson families in the area and they all seem to use the names Joseph, Alexander and George.
The Lowick Presbyterian register begins in 1804, information on previous years is lost. You could check other Presbyterian registers in the area - Wooler, Belford, Warenford, Crookham, North Sunderland and Etal.
