I wonder if anyone can help please?
On the 1841 census I have
Joshua Northrop age 65
Hannah Northrop age 60
Joshua Northrop age 10 (actual name Joshua Wright Northrop)
John Kaye age 15
living in the Dalton area of Huddersfield.
The older Joshua is grandfather to the younger Joshua. Old Joshua's son was WILLIAM NORTHROP found on the IGI and in the Kirkheaton parish records, baptised 29th October 1797. Young Joshua's marriage certificate shows his father's name to be WILLIAM. It all fits up to now.
However.......I have been unable to discover either a marriage or a death for WILLIAM NORTHROP. Young Joshua was born about 1828 so WILLIAM must have been alive in 1827.
I have searched the marriage and burial records for Kirkheaton up to 1839, but have been unable to find him anywhere. I have searched the marriage records for Almondbury up to 1837 but there is no record there either.
I would be grateful if somebody could have a look through other parish records for him, as he must be somewhere!! Even a negative report back would narrow down the search for me.

Welcome to Roots!
I've checked Kirkburton between 1812 and 1837 but the marriage isn't there. I've also checked St Peter's in Huddersfield but the only William listed there was married in 1771.
I've checked my resources to see if I can find a burial for William but I can't find one that fits with his age and location. I did find that Joshua (the older) was buried at Kirkheaton on 4 Oct 1846, and wife Hannah on 19 April 1853.
Hope this is helpful if only to eliminate.

Yes that's right - you've got the right family, but I need to get further back than this and so need Joshua's baptism but don't know where to look next. There's a possible connection with the Wakefield area, but am unsure where to look which is why I thought about Emley.
