Alfred Spingett 1879-1955 & Great Uncle Richard
|
Hi all, Any suggestions of how to proceed in looking for the death of Joseph Springett born c 1790 possibly in London.who I believe died in Stepney. He married Mary Mason in 1817 Dartford, Kent. The three children that I have traced so far were all baptised in Dartford and Gravesend. The father's occupation was given as post boy.
I know that two children, which include my 2 X Great Grandfather married in Stepney. I believe that the family did reside in Stepney for a time and then perhaps they relocated back to Gravesend after he died.
His widow Mary Springett married in February of 1834 in Gravesend.
Regards Dee

Hi
Have you checked the burial registers on Cityark for a possible burial in Kent?
http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/
Why do you believe the family were ever in London?
Regards
Valda

Hi Valda,
Thank you for your suggestion . I have been checking the CityArk burial registers and have looked at Dartford Holy Trinity and Gravesend, St Peter and Paul from the dates of the last child that I have born to Joseph and Mary in 1820 up until 1834 when Mary married again. I still have a fair few parishes to look at yet before I cast my net a little wider.
My only reasoning that the family may have been in London is that two of the children baptised in Dartford married in Stepney, one in 1844 and the other 1847. by the 1851 census they were both back in Gravesend and Chatham with their spouses one was born in Gravesend the other in Shoreditch. The sister that married in 1847 was a witness at her brother's wedding in 1844. So nothing definite just a hunch really In all likelihood Joseph may well have died in Kent.
Thank you so much for your response
Regards
Dee

Hi
It is just as probable they went to London as young people looking for work. Girls in particular often ended up as servants in London.

Hi Valda,
Thank you, I shall definately bear that in mind. I shall continue looking for a burial for Joseph in Kent, before I look elsewhere.
