In 1861 the only Aaron that looks as if it might fit is as follows:

RG9/1037 folio 63
List of persons not in houses
Tent in Farthing Drove, Wilburton, Cambs

Joseph Smith head marr 34 Rush & cane chair repairer b Lincs Nashington
Sarah Smith wife 36 Net maker b Bucks
Alfred Smith son 14 b Bucks
Angelina Smith dau 9 b Wilburton
Joseph Smith son 6 b Somersham Hunts
Aaron Smith son 4 b Willingham
Chrisana Smith dau 1 mth b Oakington Cambs

Willingham baptisms for this period are on the IGI but there's no sign of him, nor on FreeBMD

Hi,

You may have already have found this, but there is an Aaron Smith on the 1881 census living at Clayway Drove with Susan Loveridge and their son Aaron aged 1 year. It seems that both Aaron and Susan were Gypsy Labourers. Aaron is aged 21 born in Willingham.
Regards.

Thanks for that info bedfordshire boy.
Thanks to you also Paco, you were right in saying that i already had this info but it would be nice to know what happened to Aaron aged 1yr, i came across a photo of Aaron Smith taken in Coldham Lane, Cambridge in 1928 and i don't think he looks old enough to be Aaron Smith born in 1857. Huh

Hi,

I have had another look and found that an Aaron Smith married Susan Loveridge aged 35 years on the 27/3/1894 in Market Street Herts. Susan was born in 1859 which ties up with the 1881 info. Her father was Thomas Loveridge and Aaron's was Joseph Smith. It is on IGI.
Aaron junior was listed as Loverage in the 1881 born in Oxford. There is a death for an Aaron Loverage aged 4 years in Royston, Cambs. Don't know if any of this helps. I guess if it is them then there could be some more children around somewhere.
regards.

Thanks for that Paco, Aaron Smith & Susan Loveridge were my Great grandparents but i know hardly anything about the Loveridge side as there doesn't seem to be much documented about them, i knew Thomas was her father and he was born about 1823 in Bedfordshire, i would love to know who his parents were but as i said there just isn't anything anywhere about them. Thomas Loveridge appears on the 1871 census as LOVELIDGE and that seems to be the only appearance he makes.
The death of Aaron aged 4yrs in Royston could possibly be the same one but will need to be checked, i did have a great uncle who lived in Royston his name was Riley Smith but again there doesn't seem to be any info on him.

The Minnie Smith in that 1901 census was my grandmother, she was born in Berkshire in 1890 and when her birth was registered her name was Miranda Loveridge, and i think that's why i'm having so much trouble finding them because it seems their names changed willy nilly.

In 1871 Thomas' 1823 birthplace is shown as Lavendon Bucks, not Beds. Not that it makes a lot of difference as he wasn't baptised in Lavendon either!

The IGI shows a  Riley Loveridge  married Esther Skerry at Olney, a couple of miles from Lavendon, on 12 Sept 1831. Thomas Lovelidge in 1871 had a son Riley born 1860.

There has to be a connection

Thomas and Susan had a  daughter Tryphena, one month old in 1871 living at Clapham. Her birth was registered in Bedford registration district in the March quarter 1871, vol 3b page 355. If you purchase the birth certificate from the GRO it will show her mother's maiden name. That should make it easier to trace the marriage of Thomas and Susan, which appears to have been around 1855 unless they had children earlier than 1856 who had left home by 1871

Hi David
I'm intrigued by what you said in your last post about Thomas & Susan marrying around 1855, i received an email from someone on another site who found a marriage between Thomas Loveridge & Susan Parker on the 21st April 1851, the marriage took place in Tilsworth,Bedfordshire and the fathers names were William Loveridge & William Parker, it all seems to fall into place until you look at their ages because it has them both aged 19yrs which when you work back, their dates of birth would've been around the early to mid 1830s when i always suspected it should've been the early to mid 1820s, it would be lovely if i could be 100% sure it's them but it's just the age discrepancy that casts a bit of doubt.

The only way to prove it is to buy Tryphena's birth cert.  If the mother's maiden name is Parker you're home and dry- other than their ages in 1871 seeming to be suspect

But as it appears from the Aaron Smith/Susan Loveridge marriage in 1894, a marriage could take place years after the couple started producing children

They weren't called Travellers for nothing!

Yes, you are correct , the only way to be sure is to buy Tryphena's birth cert, i'll get onto it straight away and i'll get back to you and let you know the outcome.

Cheers
