I want to find someone at Weaste. I refuse to pay Salford's extortionate prices for a grave search so I paid a few pounds for the Jones records from cemsearch but it is incomplete and typically my guy isn't on the current list.
I was just going to walk around and trust to luck until I found out the cemetery is 39 acres!
what I'd like to know, if poss, is are the graves arranged generally by year of burial?

Hi Raphael
Yes, its a great site. I ordered the report for Jones from them but as I say, its incomplete so my Jones wasn't listed

Hi,
Do you know the exact date of death for the person you are looking for? It might mean you need to order a death certificate but its better paying £7.00 than the fee for a grave search.
I have found with both Salford Diocese and Burnley Cemetery that when I emailed them with the exact date of death, they gave me the plot number and there was no question of charges. However without the exact date Salford Diocese quoted £30.00. I must admit that I haven't had any contact with Weaste though. When I have emailed, I never tell them I am researching family history.
Once you've got the plot number its just a matter of obtaining a plan of the cemetery. You should be able to get one fairly easily and if not I am sure there will be one at the entrance to the cemetery.
I am not sure about graves being arranged by year of burial. They are arranged by religion; CofE, RC and Non Conformist and some graveyards have Jewish and Muslim sections. Then I think it would depend if it was a private family grave or a public grave. The public graves might well be arranged in order of burial.
Hope this is helpful.

Hi again,
Just had a look at the Weaste website for a plan and there is one but I am really shocked that they charge £15.00 for a grave search when accurate dates are given .
I can understand a charge if you don't know the dates.
I would still try with a really friendly email giving the exact date of death and as I say don't mention family research. You never know and nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Hi Luzzu, thanks for all that really useful information.
Unfortunately, I only know the year of death.
Salford really irritate me because neighbouring council Manchester have a FREE online search of their cemeteries and you can search by a date range.

Salford Reporter which is available in Manchester library on film lists burials at Weaste. It would mean searching through a full year if you dont know the exact date.
