« on: Sunday 01 November 09 19:31 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I was just wondering if anyone out there could help with my grandads army record, i would like to know why his period of release kept being extended, and what it actually means?

Any help appreciated

Theresa

It means that though he was liable to be transferred to a military unit because he was/had been in the Territorials, he was classed W(T) which means that he had a civilian job that was more important to the war effort.

The class does no indicate what that job may have been though it is likely to be one that for civilians was called a Reserved Occupation.

The extensions probably mean that his "exemption" from military service was regularly reviewed.
