hi everyone Smiley
i wonder if anyone can help me. im looking for the name of james mc mullans mother.james married maryjane tumilty in 1899  in drumee co.down.i have their marriage cert and it says his fathers name is hugh mc mullan.i cant seem to get back any further.

Have you found them in 1911 Census which is free online?

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

May contain usefull information to help you trace back like ages county of birth etc.

Also if you get the church marriage record may have name of mother on it.

Hi...don't know if this will be any use to you but I found a James Mc Mullan (Mullin) in County Down. It shows the father as Hugh Mc Mullan and the birth year is 1876, which would make him be about 23 when he married. I got this information on http://down.brsgenealogy.com. Its free to join and search but you have to pay to view records. You will find his mothers name if you chose to pay for the record. Hope this helps

Might be this one in IGI (free)-
James McMullon born 27 May 1876 Co.Down, son of Hugh McMullon and Anne Morgan.     
but then again, lots of other James McMullan/McMillan, with father named Hugh, show up in IGI (www.familysearch.org)

maryj mc mullan  was in the 1911 cencus .the church she was married in was the chapel of newcastle  in kilkeel . the marriage cert only gives the fathers names
