Nehemiah Jeremiah are they the same?

my grgrgr grandfather was called Nehemiah merefield.  I have found him in the 1841 and 1851 census listed as born around 1788 (1851) in Compton Abbas Dorset.  He married Maria Cox in 1819 and the marriage is listed in the Compton Abbas parish records on OPR Dorset.   There is no listing in the Baptisms for a Nehemiah Merefield born 1788 but there is a listing for a Jeremiah Merefield 1786 ito an Eli and Sarah Merefield.  They had a number of children.  On Ancestry there seems to be a number of tree listing Neremiah Merefield as a child of Eli and Sarah some giving the birth as for Jeremiah some on the basis of the censuses.  would the name be mis transcribed or could he not have been baptised in the parish despite the fact all his siblings appear to be.  I feel uncomfortable putting Eli and Sarah in the tree without some sort of source basis.  Help?

I think you need to consult the original baptism in the parish register if you are in range of Dorset Record Office.Please pm me if you are not, and I will look for it next time I go there.

I live in cornwall and am not heading to Dorset any time soon although my son is desperate to explore the fossil coast!  If you do have access to Dorset Record I would be ever so grateful if you had an opportunity to have a look for me.  many thanks.
