Bankruptcy
« on: Sunday 01 November 09 20:33 UTC (UK) »

Just a thought Undecided

Was there bankruptcy in the late 1860s, if there was where would I find any records about individuals?  I have found online information from the The London Gazette 1990, I wondered if there was anything like this to be found from earlier years.
Thank you

Thank you Stan for your help supplying the links, I will have a search through them to see if the person I am looking for is recorded on any of them.

Thank you also ammonite for your reply with help.

Celia thank you for your offer, I am looking for a William Henry Cox possibly in records regarding bankruptcy 1880 to 1891 in Plymouth or 1891 up to 1901 in Brighton.  I would be delighted then if you can have a look through the 19th century newspapers to see if he is mentioned in any of them.

Many thanks
Ewan

If you put William Henry Cox as an exact phrase in advanced search on the London Gazette site, 1890-1901, there are a number of 'hits'

Have look in the Gazette first.Because reports are almost always repeated in most papers so i might find the same ones.If you don't find the report you want then i will look Wink

Thank you Stan for your advice, there wasn't too many hits to look at but unfortunately there wasn't anything that related to the William Henry Cox I am looking for.

Celia, just caught your reply, as I am in the library looking at censuses, but ancestry keeps going down, some maintenance problem I think.  Can you still if possible have a look through what you have?

Many thanks
