Oldcoates Parish Records
« on: Sunday 01 November 09 20:42 UTC (UK) »

Is any one able to check out the Oldcoates Parish records for me please.

George Mason b abt 1811     Mother could possibly be Hannah Mason shown in the 1841 Styrup Census
He married a Susannah/Susan Cobb.

I am in California, so any details on any Masons from Oldcoates pre 1841 would be great.
Thanks Hallfields.

Hi Hallfields.

I'm fairly sure that Oldcotes (as it is now) and Styrrup (where George and his family lived in 1881) were in the Parish of Blyth. Sorry I can't be of more direct help.

Mike

EDIT: Just checked my copy of the History and Antiquities of the Parish of Blyth. Parts of both Oldcotes and Styrrup were in the Parish of Blyth. The remainder of both villages was in the Parish of Harworth.

Hello Hallfields,

On the 1881 census, George and Susan Mason are living in styrrup.

Susan's birth place is given as Everton, Nottinghamshire.

On the IGI for Everton there is Susan Cobb Christened 6th Feb 1813 Father John Cobb Mother Mary.

There are two entries for a John Cobb Marrying in Everton.
John Cobb Married Mary Gordon 13th January 1806 and
John Cobb Married Mary Selby 27th November 1809.

Thanks Kaycee for helping out.

Now I have to find which John Cobb & Mary are the parents of Susan/Susanna.
I didn't relaise there were two about the same time.

I am also looking for George b abt 1811 in Styrrup parents.

Thanks once again.

The two John Cobbs may have been the same man, Hallfields, his first wife having died soon after the marriage. Everton was an extremely tiny place in 1806/9.

I never thought of that Mike, if she did die soon after the marriage probably in childbirth.

Is any one able to check the deaths in Everton for me please?  1806/09

Thanks again Hallfields

A general search brings up this result ...

Richard Cobb and wife Sarah, Thomas Cobb and wife Mary, John Cobb and Joseph Cobb ...... Sale of house and cottage at Everton: family and financial matters. ...

... on this site ...

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/A2A/records.aspx?cat=157-ddt_1-2&cid=-1&Gsm=2008-06-18#-1

... which is the Nottinghamshire section of the National Archives. Somewhere in that long list, you'll be able to find the actual file reference for the above.
