Hello.
I have been looking long and hard for this street for many hours and days.
When I was in London, I purchased maps and searched for many hours on the Internet.
I have my Grandfather's birth certificate. He was born in Gordon Place, in the Sub-district of Tufnell in the County of London in the Registration District of Islington in 1903.
I was wondering would anybody be able to tell me where it was. I think it was near to Highgate Hill but I can't see it on the old maps that I have.

Hi there is a Gordon Place Lodging House in Highgate Hill in the 1901 census RG13/158 folio 6. From the enumeration district it was near Salisbury Road/Brunswick Road and Girdlestone Road.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help, guys.
So Gordon Place was a Lodging House on Highgate Hill. Some of the website hits that I found seem to say that it was a street. That was what was confusing me, I kept looking for a street called Gordon Place.
In order to see the occupants of the Lodging House, the Census web sites want you to register and pay to view.
Which one is best?

Bryant,
Thank you for your post.
His name was William Hulbert. I don't think that they lived in Gordon Place for long as they moved to Ireland about 1908.

Hi, Just checked the 1891 census and it has it's own enumeration district. RG12/150/folios 158-162 Gordon Place Lodging Houses. Strange, but they were all men?

Hi, Just checked out the 1901 census and it was still all men?
There was a Gordon Place in St.Pancras, are you sure about the Islington?

Hello Jennifer C and Bryant,
Yes Tufnell was a Sub-district in the Registration District of Islington. That is what it says on his birth cert.
William's parents' names were Francis and Emma/Emily.
They had other children around the Kentish Town area.
Thank you for all your help so far.

Hello Bryant,
Yes they were supposed to have moved to Ireland but the interesting thing is that I can't find them on the 1911 Irish census either.

Thanks for the map, I presume that Gordon Place is a small street on Highgate Hill with just one Lodging House on it. I can't see it on the map but the street is probably too small for the name to be entered onto the map.
Incidentally there was another street called Highgate Hill then, it follows North of Highgate Road. It seems to be called Highgate West Hill now.
Thanks for all your help. David
